“There’s Always Hope”
Exactly one year ago, the COVID-19 pandemic abruptly halted learning worldwide, creating the most severe disruption in the history of education. At the height of the crisis, according to UNESCO data, more than 1.6 billion students
in more than 190 countries stopped attending school. More than 100 million teachers and school staff were affected by the sudden closure of educational centers.
The lockdown has brought to light the term and the issue of “school dropout.”
During the lockdown, school dropout rates reportedly reached 50% in some establishments.
To this end, the project aims to rely on associative structures located in priority neighborhoods, which have deployed local socio-professional integration mechanisms, which very often bring innovation.
But, often isolated, undervalued, with few resources, and faced with complex problems related to the profile of young people who drop out of school, they can only target a small number of young people. These actors express a need for
support and guidance, which is why they have formed this strategic partnership.
Given the profile of these vulnerable young people, exacerbated by the crisis, it is necessary to work on solutions that allow for:
- Improving the social inclusion of young people
- Develop key skills and competencies to ensure youth employability.
Therefore, we want to better guide young people who have failed at school into the labor market and thus ensure their employability by working on personalized training modules.
To achieve this, we must: - Strengthening the capacities of socio-educational agents who support young people who drop out of school through training and the exchange of good practices
- Capitalize on the profiles, experiences, and complementary skills of the socio-educational stakeholders involved in the project, with the goal of replicating these best practices.
In the long term, the impact of this project is the inclusion of a greater number of young school dropouts who are low-skilled and/or disadvantaged, as well as the strengthening of cooperation between organizations and territorial and national institutions, so that the latter can integrate good practices into their educational policy.
